On October 2, a test alarm will be carried out! Throughout Austria, about 8,200 fire department sirens will thereby emit the civil defense signals.
On Saturday, October 2, a nationwide civil defense test alarm will be carried out again. Between 12 noon and 12:45 p.m., after the “siren rehearsal” signal, the three civil defense signals “warning”, “alarm” and “all-clear” will be broadcast throughout Austria.
On the one hand, the test alarm serves to check the technical equipment of the warning and alarm system, on the other hand, the population is to be familiarized with these signals and their meaning.
Austria has a well-developed warning and alarm system, which is operated by the Ministry of the Interior together with the offices of the provincial governments. This makes Austria one of only a few countries to have a nationwide siren warning system.
The signals can currently be emitted via about 8,200 fire department sirens. Depending on the danger situation, the signals can be triggered centrally by the Federal Warning Center in the Operations and Coordination Center of the Ministry of the Interior, by the provincial warning centers of the individual provinces or by the district warning centers.
In addition to the triggering of these sirens, a test triggering of KATWARN Austria/Austria will be carried out by the Federal Warning Center during this year’s test alert, as in previous years.
